Overwatch League Pro Player Suspended After Homophobic Remark

An Overwatch League pro player by the name of Felix Lengyel has just been suspended from the tournament. This was after he used a homophobic slur on a live stream.

Felix, better known as xQx and is a player of the Dallas Fuel team, received a fine of $2,000 and is suspended for four games. According to Metro, the Overwatch League pro player will only be able to play until the second stage of the tournament starts in February.

The league released an official statement concerning the issue involving Felix. He was basically suspended for directly “violating the Overwatch League Code of Conduct.” This happened during his individual stream on Thursday.

Although the statement did not reveal what the slur was, it is believed to have surfaced after Lengyel threw an insult at a fellow player named Austin “Muma” Wilmot. His team was reportedly defeated by Wilmot’s Houston Outlaws, 4-0.

Apparently, Wilmot parodied one of Lengyel’s catchphrases after the win. This eventually urged Lengyel – who actually did not join the match – to react in a rather extreme fashion. Unfortunately for him, everything was caught on livestream.

Lengyel shouted,

Shut your f**king mouth. Go back there, suck a fat cock. I mean, he would like that.

The streamer appeared to have regretted what he said, as he became instantly quiet following the remark. He also knew that Wilmot is (openly) gay.

The pair has since reconciled on Twitter, with Wilmot responding to Lengyel’s apology.

No hard feelings at all and I apologize for what I said back. You’re on a great team and I fully expect you to return to full force before playoffs.

Dallas Fuel, on the other hand, issued a statement on the matter, saying:

We support the Overwatch League’s recent decision to suspend Felix “xQx” Lengyel. In addition to the league’s four-game suspension, we will be suspending xQx for the remainder of Stage 1.

We believe in working with our players to help them become the best possible competitors, professionals and teammates. That includes work both inside and outside of competition for Felix.

No one wants to see Felix succeed more than we do. It is our hope that he can return to the team with the passion, competitiveness and focus that it takes to play in the Overwatch League.

This is the first official eSports league for Blizzard’s first-person shooter, which has accumulated over 10 million viewers in its first week.
