Watch the spooky spirits, ghouls, and strange monstrosities in the new trailer
The trailer begins with the two girls roaming around the
streets of a small night town. Despite the dreary
undertone, the hand drawn art-style
of the game is undeniably pleasant to look at.
Then, after a few moments of scouting, the two girls encounter
several hostile creatures like spooky spirits, ghouls, and other forms of
strange abominations.
The trailer implies that there won’t be any way to fight
these creatures. It appears that the only way to escape these creatures is
through fleeing and puzzles. Equipped only with flashlight, the two girls must
overcome the obstacles of the village in the form of monsters and traps.
“Yomawari: Midnight
Shadows” gameplay borrows heavily from the survival horror genre with a few puzzle
and exploration elements thrown in. You can watch the gameplay trailer below.
“Yomawari: Midnight
Shadows” is an upcoming survival horror game from the developers Nippon
Ichi Software. This game is a sequel for the 2015 game “Yomawari Night Alone.”
In the game, the players will explore a town at night in
order to reunite the two girls and get them to find their way back home.
Similar to other survival games, the only light source of the player is a
flashlight. The players can find items while exploring, as well as enemies like
strange spirits, ghouls, and other forms of abominations. One of the core
elements of the gameplay is the girls’ heartbeat. When around the enemies, the
girls’ heartbeat increases. There is no fighting in the game and the only way
to overcome the enemies is through fleeing, hiding or using various items in
game.
The game’s story revolves around the two girls Yui and Haru
as they got lost their way back home from a late summer fireworks festival in
the mountains. The two got separated when they let go of each other’s hands. Armed
only with their courage, the two decide to explore an ominous night town that
is completely different during the day. As the story progress, the player will
be able to switch between the two characters. The players’ actions, decisions,
and information gathered will determine the outcome of the story.
“Yomawari: Midnight
Shadows” is set to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Steam on
August 24, 2017 in Japan and in western regions in October 2017.
