‘Yakuza: Kiwami 2’ Official Announcement Confirms its Release Date

Following the Taiwanese leak, Sega has finally confirmed the upcoming remake of the second game in the Yakuza series titled, “Yakuza: Kiwami 2.” Similar to the remake of the first game back in 2016, “Yakuza: Kiwami 2” will also receive an “extreme” high definition makeover.

Utilizing the Dragon Engine, the remake will include new storylines and new voiceovers. Adding to these, Sega also plans to include a new Majima Goro scenario called “Truth of Majima Goro.”  They also plan to release a limited edition that will include a PlayStation 4 theme, PS avatars, three-disc CD set, 10 business cards that feature the game characters, and several downloadable contents. This limited edition will cost 11,590 yen.

The three-disc CD set of the limited edition consists of the Kazuma Kiryu CD, the Majima Goro CD, and the original games’ soundtrack “Kiwami” CD. The downloadable contents include several exclusive costumes, exclusive weapons, play spot-exclusive additional characters, and one million in-game yen.

Alongside this remake, a new PlayStation 4 model following the game’s theme was also revealed. The upcoming model will be available for purchase at launch in the Sony Store Japan in colors “Jet Black” and “Glacier White.” The package will include a PlayStation 4, three different Yakuza: Kiwami 2 themes.

Yakuza 2 is the sequel to the action adventure Sega game Yakuza. Its initial release in Japan was December 7, 2006 for the PlayStation 2 console. Later on, it got a North American and European release in September 2008. The game revolves around the former yakuza member Kazuma Kiryu.
On November 1, 2012, Sega released a PlayStation 3 HD remaster of the game titled “Ryu Ga Gotoku 1& 2 HD edition.” Then, on December 11, 2014, the “HD edition” was re-released for the budget range on Japan called “PlayStation 3 the Best.”

The game also got another HD remaster for the Wii U console on August 8, 2013 titled “Ryu Ga Gotoku 1& 2 HD for Wii U.” This release includes both game remasters in a single disc. This release is the very first release of the Sony exclusive game on a non-Sony console.

“Yakuza: Kiwami 2” is set to release on December 7, 2017 for PlayStation 4 in Japan. There’s still no official announcement regarding the English translation of the game. You can watch the announcement trailer below.
