What Actually Happens When Masturbation Is Stopped

No matter how you deny it, you’ll still agree that masturbation is great. It’s one of the pleasures here on Earth anyway. For most people – be it men or women – it’s their first “hands-on” (pun intended) experience with sexuality. It’s not literally sex, but somehow it gives the same kind of satisfaction.

In fact, many use masturbation as a way to relieve stress. Because believe it or not, it releases feel-good hormones. It just helps in brightening your day. However, there are times that people will stop masturbating. It’s either they’re too busy or too lazy to give themselves a “me-time.”

Seriously though, what happens when one decides to stop masturbating? Does it affect one’s life in one way or another? Actually, it does.

The Stigma

Although masturbation is a common practice, it’s still highly stigmatized in today’s society and culture. It’s quite funny considering everybody does it. But because of that stigma, some people would go to the ends of the Earth just to stop touch themselves.

Heck, a community called “No Fap” actually exists today. And as the name of their group suggests, it’s safe to say that they’re not into masturbating. Or at least they decided to stop doing so. The group was launched back in 2011 by a guy named Alexander Rhodes. He reportedly quit masturbating after having enough porn films. (He watched around 10 or more porns in a day).

Just remember this: whenever people stop masturbating, there’s a lot of things that get affected. This could range from physical to mental to emotional.

Productivity Increased

Perhaps the most popular one is the increase in productivity. This is actually surprising. Why? Many suggest that masturbation increases one’s productivity, as it somehow takes the stress away. It clears the mind and gives the person a space to think, act, and produce.

According to Vice’s Ed Smith, he was able to write 20 to 30 articles as soon as he stopped masturbating. He even started writing a book and began eating salad. Not to mention the fact that he built a bed. All of these were possible after he took a timeout. Smith, nonetheless, revealed that the moment he returned to the deed, his productivity rate was back at being low again.

Energy, Energy, and Energy

As for the found of “No Fap,” Rhodes reportedly experience a surge in energy. He can’t tell exactly how the change happened, but he can feel it.

Here’s what he had to say about it:

I gained an energy that can be applied to every area of life.

Jim Pfaus, a Neuroscience professor, explains that productivity increase has something to do with things that a person doesn’t release. He even went to say that keeping the testosterone inside doesn’t result to an increase in productivity. The feeling of getting “more energy” is rather psychological. It’s belief-driven. Nothing more, nothing less.

In fact, without masturbation, a person is likely to experience stress. He/she will even have to find a way to cope up with sexual frustration, something that could be done with masturbation.

Feeling Lighter

This one here is all about the stigma revolving around masturbation. If a person stops, he will feel more comfortable dealing with everything in the society. He will feel “pure” and “innocent.” Pfaus adds that even today, plenty of men – most especially women – still feel extremely guilty after masturbation. Not just because it’s a bad thing or something, but simply because of the frequency. They think that masturbating multiple times a day is a crime.

To Masturbate or Not?

There are lots of benefits to masturbation like the ones mentioned above. It also helps in keeping a healthy sexual relationship with your partner. However, the choice to masturbate or not really depends on you. If masturbation proves to do wonders to you, then you might as well continue. But if it affects your lifestyle in a bad way, then you need to have second thoughts. It’s all about finding which one is best for you.
