Teenage Boy Arrested in Saudi Arabia for Dancing the Macarena in Street
The short video demonstrated a young man, wearing shorts and a striped shirt, with earphones on, dancing in a zebra crossing amid a red light.
Saudi police broke down the video featuring the 14-year-old and figured out how to find him, Ati al-Qurashi, a police representative, was cited as saying in Alriyadh daily paper. The kid, whose demonstration violated public decency norms, was held for addressing and would be handed over to the public general prosecutor, he said. The report didn't distinguish him by name.
It is not clear why police have captured him after it rose since the video was first posted in July 2016. Laws in Saudi Arabia give authorities and judges the ability to punish and arrest children at their discretion.
Saudi Arabia advances a strict adaptation of Sunni Islam that frowns upon Western-motivated propensities or customs. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is endeavoring to facilitate some limitations to these restrictions as he tries to push their emerging entertainment industry as a component of a plan to decrease the economy's dependence on income from oil exports.
